The Australian and New-Zealand Association of Management (ANZAM)

ANZAM is the peak professional body for management educators and researchers, with over 300 individual members from Australia, New Zealand and other Asian/Pacific countries. It now has over 50 institutional members, representing almost every Australian university and increasingly is playing a leading role in presenting a common view to government and industry bodies on strategic issues relevant to management education.

The basic objective of the Academy is to advance scholarship in management research and education and related disciplines by:

1.

Furthering the development of management education and associated disciplines in universities and colleges in Australia and New Zealand

2.

Encouraging scholarship and research

3.

holding conferences and publishing material as a means for disseminating ideas and information and promoting their discussion

4.

Promoting closer relations between management educators, researchers and practising managers or others who may be interested in the advancement of these objects.

Over the past two years, ANZAM has sponsored a number of key meetings of Deans and Heads of Schools of institutional members with the Karpin Committee as it developed the "Enterprising Nation" report. These activities influenced, in particular, recommendations made relating to management education in our universities. ANZAM actively lobbied for the introduction of a comprehensive accreditation process for graduate management programmes which is voluntary and mission-based. In 1997, ANZAM co-funded the ARC Report on Management Research in Australia. The Academy was pleased to have the Chair of the ARC, Professor Vicki Sara, launch the Report at the meeting of its Institutional Members on Wednesday 3 December, during the ANZAM 97 conference. The ANZAM Executive has already established a Research Sub-committee which will, interalia, address the recommendations of the Report.
