Federative organization Founded in 1989

The Federation, which was found in 1990 and is incorporated as an ASBL (non profit association) in Belgium, currently has 28 member associations and 1 observer associations across all continents welcoming all areas and subfields of Management, Organization, Administrative Sciences, and Business Administration.
Our statutory mission is to advance management research, education and practice across the world. Each member can appoint two delegates (representatives) in our General Assembly (GA), who serve in one of the current six GA committees. More on our governance here.
In order to carry out our soft policy role regarding the future of management education, research and practice, the federation has three VPs who lead as co-chairs the respective committees of the GA.
The Federation issued its first soft policy statement on management research in June 2021, whose application is now being discussed in different member countries in cooperation with the respective member associations.
In addition, we also organize different kinds of gatherings such (1) a biennial world congress to now nourish the soft policy work in an informed and evidenced-based manner, (2) consultation webinars for our soft policy making and (3) workshops about different topics of interest.
We also hold quarterly meetings with the presidents and chairs of the member and observer associations to share and learn about topics of interest for the scholarly profession and management field, such as the future of higher education, academic conferences, and scientific research (open data and science) in management.
In the publication domain, we publish the main insights of our public and free webinars in IFSAM conversation letters.
We relay all relevant information of our member associations such as annual conferences, significant publications and editorial searches, in our member news’ section and in the page devoted to each member association, as well as through our social media.
To recognize outstanding contributions coming from different parts of the world, since 2021 we issue a call for four awards. regarding excellence in societally relevant scholarship, indigenous research (to signal our commitment to a contextualized perspective), pedagogical innovation and service to the profession worldwide.
