Session Theme

Digitalization and the Future of Management Research

Publishing and sharing management research during turbulent times (Research/ Panel, Q&A)

Session overview

As Management scholars, we are living and working in turbulent times. Geopolitical tensions, the climate emergency, work intensification and precarity and transformative digitalisation such as generative and agentic artificial intelligence (AI) are having a profound effect on how we as management associations lead, guide and support our members as they navigate these multiple challenges.
This session focuses, specifically on the ‘age of AI’ asking: what impact is or might these advances in AI have on the way we produce, share and disseminate our research as management scholars? Specifically, how are advances in AI impacting the practices of writing and peer-reviewing academic work and what challenges does this present for publication outlets, our scholarly community and society more broadly?
The session will be chaired by IFSAM VP and Deputy VPs for Research and will include contributions from management associations and journal editors who draw on newly published editorials and frameworks to present their positions on responsible use of AI in management research.
Following these initial presentations, the chairs will facilitate a panel discussion on cross-cutting themes including:

  • Managing tensions between quality vs quantity of management research
  • Production vs evaluation of management research
  • Specific challenges in relation to particular methodological approaches
  • The shift of academic performance criteria towards research relevance and purpose.

The facilitators will then open the floor for a Q&A session with participants for the remaining 20 minutes or so.
